Column: Drunk driving links to Mohegan casino

"When I first saw a notice that Mohegan Sun is sponsoring a “Madd About Dancing” fundraiser this week for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, it was soon after the news broke that the woman accused of causing last Sunday's fatal car accident in Montville had been coming from the casino.

The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Long Island, was charged with drunken driving, talking on a cell phone while driving and evading responsibility.

Mothers who care about drunken drivers ought to be out in front of the casino picketing, I thought, not gathering inside at a dancing gala, being co-opted.

After all, two other fatal car accidents just this year have been linked to drunken drivers who were served at Mohegan Sun. And the casino has a dismal record of liquor law violations, a long history of serving under-aged and intoxicated patrons.

Why accept what should seem to an organization like MADD to be blood money?"
