California tribes host gaming meeting in Palm Springs

The California Nations Indian Gaming Association holds the annual Western Indian Gaming Conference next week.

The conference takes place January 12-14 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Registration this year is free.

Daniel J. Tucker, the newly-elected chairman of CNIGA, says tribes should attend to learn more about Internet gaming. He said tribal revenues are threatened by legislation that would regulate the industry.

"Every tribal leader needs to be informed about the coming threat of Congressional legislation that will transfer billions of dollars from Indian reservations to foreign offshore Internet casinos," Tucker said in a letter posted on Pechanga.Net. "The threat is real – as real as when the U.S. Attorneys and Pete Wilson sought to shut tribal casinos down. Only it is more insidious. And it will happen if we do nothing."
