City hopes to negotiate casino agreement with three tribes

The tribes haven't made an official announcement but leaders in Beloit, Wisconsin, are hoping for a three-way off-reservation casino deal.

The city council is meeting today to discuss a potential deal that would involve the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe, the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and the Ho-Chunk Nation. "We hope all three tribes will be involved, but right now the tribes are talking amongst each other," city manager Larry Arft told The Beloit Daily News.

City leaders and residents have strongly supported an off-reservation casino. The city signed an intergovernmental agreement with the St. Croix and Bad River tribes that would need to be changed if the Ho-Chunk Nation comes on board.

The Bush administration rejected the St. Croix/Bad River plan for the Beloit Casino Project in 2009, saying it was too far from their respective reservations.
