A group that's been fighting the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria wants new California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) to join the battle against the tribe's casino.

The Stop the Casino 101 Coalition says Brown shouldn't negotiate a Class III compact with the tribe. The group's letter raises concerns about the tribe's federal recognition and questions whether the tribe can engage in gaming on a 254-acre site.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed to acquire the land in trust. The The National Indian Gaming Commission also has said the site qualifies for gaming.

The tribe was recognized by an act of Congress in 2000. The law stated where the tribe could acquire land.
