"Gov. Andrew Cuomo has begun setting the stage for the next legislative session in Albany, and one of his priorities will be establishing private, non-Indian gambling operations.

We’ve long been concerned about casinos because of their social implications, but because it now appears inevitable that New York is going to allow them, perhaps sooner than later, we’re prepared to go along with the idea as long as its undertaken in a reasonable manner.

Less than three months ago, Cuomo claimed that he didn’t have a position on the matter, only that his administration had been working on a policy. But on Sunday he finally showed his cards, proclaiming that the state needs to create “destination gaming locations” as a means of creating jobs and retaining revenue currently being lost when residents travel to casinos out of state.

But make no mistake, when politicians use the word “gaming” they’re just trying to make the practice sound like less of a vice than it actually is."
