Fort Sill Apache Tribe sees support for casino in New Mexico

The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma saw little opposition to its plans for a casino in southern New Mexico at a community forum on Wednesday.

The Deming Headlight said only one person spoke out against the casino. Nearly everyone else in the audience of about 200 welcomed the idea, the paper said.

"I'm really moved," Chairman Jeff Haozous told the paper. "It's really touching."

The tribe, however, has to convince state and federal officials to support the plan. The Mescalero Apache Nation also opposes the casino.
