Catawba Nation promises appeal after judge blocks casino

The Catawba Nation can't open a casino on its reservation, a judge in South Carolina ruled on Tuesday.

The state's Gambling Cruise Act of 2005 authorized off-shore casino boats. The tribe argued that it is entitled to the same type of gaming on the reservation.

Circuit Judge Ernest Kinard disagreed. He said state law currently bans video gaming devices.

"We plan to appeal this ruling and continue our quest for justice," Chief Bill Harris said in response, according to news reports. "Our faith remains strong that one day soon justice will prevail."
