The Navajo Nation has signed a law enforcement agreement affecting its Class III facility in Arizona.

The tribe provides primary services at the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort. The agreement authorizes Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies to enforce tribal law and act as backup.

“Now, we can actually take action, make arrests if we need to, and basically provide a much safer environment by being able to step in," Sheriff Bill Pribil told The Arizona Daily Sun.

The tribe and the county have been in talks about sharing law enforcement for more than a decade.
