The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe enforced an "English-only" policy at one of its casinos in Michigan, drawing objections from a patron who felt she was discriminated against.

Rana Chevalier was playing blackjack at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort when she started speaking Chaldean with her elderly mother, who has limited English skills, and her sister, MLive reported. A pit boss told the trio to stop communicating while they were at the table.

"It's simply because of a need for games protection," Chief Frank Cloutier, who was just elected to the tribal council, told MLive. "It's not meant to offend. I understand how someone could be taken aback by that. But it's not meant to be personal in any way, shape or form."

The policy is enforced while games are being played to prevent cheating, a spokesperson told MLive.
