Indian drivers in Neb. more likely to be searched

Native American drivers in Nebraska were arrested more than 3 times as often as the general population and were 2 1/2 times more likely to be searched than the general population, according to a new report from the Nebraska Crime Commission.
The study looked at traffic stop and arrest data over a two-year period. Statistics showed that Native drivers were more often stopped for criminal violations than other drivers. And when they were stopped, they were more likely to be searched than others.
The report was mandated by a state law. It did not examine whether police engaged in any sort of racial profiling.
