Navajo Boys and Girls protest president's plan
Monday, June 28, 2004
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Navajo Nation held a protest against President Joe Shirley's plan to turn the organization into a tribal entity.
The clubs are currently run by a non-profit organization. But Shirley wants them to be an official part of the tribal government.
The Boys and Girls Clubs board of directors opposes the move and encouraged parents and kids to attend the protest on Friday, which was held outside Shirley's office in Window Rock, Arizona. Shirley was criticized for withholding $1 million in funds from the clubs.
