Oklahoma tribes pour $551K into state question

Four Oklahoma tribes have spent $551,000 on a state question that would create a state lottery, The Oklahoman reports.
The Chickasaw Nation gave $251,000 to Oklahoma Kids Coalition, a pro-lottery group, while the Cherokee and Choctaw nations gave $150,000 each. The Absentee Shawnee Tribe gave $25,000 to the coalition.
The tribal donations make up 73 percent of the amount the coalition raised through October 18, the paper said. The money goes to support State Question 705.
A Cherokee Nation spokesperson said the tribe gave money because people who vote for SQ 705 are likely to vote for State Question 712, the tribal gaming initiative.
