Fire Thunder calls election at Pine Ridge symbolic

Cecelia Fire Thunder is celebrating her victory in the Oglala Sioux Tribe's election while activist/actor Russell Means says defeat spells the end of his political aspirations.

Not all the votes are in but Fire Thunder was leading with 56 percent to 44 percent for Means. "It is a symbolic moment," the first woman president of the tribe told The Rapid City Journal.

Means, on the other hand, called it a "sad day." After losing his second bid for tribal presidency and a recent bid for New Mexico governor, he says he will stick to acting and activist activities.

"I doubt that I will continue in politics," he told the paper.
