Yakama Nation votes to keep basketball team

Members of the Yakama Nation of Washington voted 169-100, with 102 abstentions, to retain ownership of a minor league basketball team.
The decision came during the tribe's annual general council meeting. Tribal members heard a financial report from Yakama Sun Kings general manager Rick Austin before voting.
Margaret Pennah, a tribal member, said it will cost the tribe $1 million over three years to keep the team, based on Austin's report.
Tribal Council Chairman Louis Cloud opposed keeping the team, saying it would cost too much money. He said the tribe may have to reduce monthly per capita payments from timber revenues.
