Navajo group opposes return of uranium mining

Citing past environmental problems, Navajo tribal members are worried that uranium mining will return to the reservation.
The Eastern Navajo Dine Against Uranium Mining says uranium mining leads to groundwater pollution. An accident in 1979 led to the release of 94 million gallons of radioactive wastewater and 1,100 tons of uranium tailings.
The eastern part of the Navajo Nation is being eyed for new uranium development, according to The Gallup Independent.
