Navajo Nation communities still without water

Nearly 80,000 people on the Navajo Nation lack running water, a situation tribal leaders hope to change by settling their water rights claims.
The tribe has reached a deal with New Mexico. But the Bush administration is balking at the cost of building a pipeline that will serve Indian and non-Indian communities. Talks are still underway with Arizona.
The inaction means people like Ethel Whitehair, 87, will have to wait longer for a reliable source of water.
Whitehair, who lives in Tonalea, Arizona, depends on her children to haul water. Some people drive 30 miles or more, one way, to reach good wells on the reservation.
