Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe ousts Marshall as chair

Glenn Marshall was ousted as chairman of the newly recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts on Monday night.

Marshall offered to resign in 30 days but the tribal council voted 10-1 to terminated him immediately. Vice chairman Shawn Hendricks will now serve as chairman.

Marshall relinquished his duties on Friday after admitting that he distorted his military record. News reports also confirmed that he was convicted of rape in 1981.

The tribe successfully completed the federal recognition process during Marshall's tenure. The tribe is submitting its first land-into-trust applications this week.
