Iroquois lacrosse team joins forces with Nike

The Iroquois Nationals lacrosse team is joining forces with Nike to promote the traditional Iroquois game.

Nike is hoping the Nationals brand will be recognized worldwide. Sales of apparel, tickets to games and sports camp tuition fees could bring in $9 million by 2011.

"We are the grandfathers of this game, there's no doubt about it," Chief Oren Lyons of the Onondaga Nation tells The Boston Globe.

Lyons is the honorary chairman of the Iroquois Nationals. He recently met with Nike and Johns Hopkins University to develop the marketing program.

"We want to show our ownership of lacrosse to the world," said Dave Bray, a board member for the team who is the also working with Nike.
