Gila River youth carry on tribal art traditions

Youth of the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona have become more and more interested in preserving tribal art traditions.

Young Gila River artists have their works featured and sold at the tribe's Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa. They have learned they can make some money as they carry on traditions such as pottery and basket weaving.

"It's fun," Hilda Sunn, 13, tells The Arizona Republic. Sunn learned how to make pottery from her mother, Dorothea Sunn-Avery. "I really believe she is going to carry it on," Sunn-Avery says.
