Pueblo man joins race for Congressional seat

Benny Shendo Jr Benny Shendo Jr., a member of Jemez Pueblo, is seeking the Democratic nomination for New Mexico's 3rd Congressional District seat.

Shendo is resigning his post as secretary of Indian affairs for the state of New Mexico. His last day will be this Friday, the Associated Press reports.

The seat is being vacated by Rep. Tom Udall (D-New Mexico), who is running for Senate due to the retirement of Sen. Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico).

The 3rd Congressional District is home to several Pueblos, the Jicarilla Apache Nation and parts of the Navajo Nation.
