FBI raids museums in probe of looted artifacts
Friday, January 25, 2008
Filed Under: Arts & Entertainment | Law

The FBI raided four museums and one gallery in southern California as part of a probe into stolen Native American and Asian artifacts.

Authorities appeared to mainly focus on Asian artifacts. But some Native items were allegedly taken from Chaco Culture National Historical Park and El Malpais National Monument, both in New Mexico.

The museums raided were the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana and Mingei International Museum in San Diego. The Silk Roads Gallery in Los Angeles was also raided.
