Man killed in fight on Lac du Flambeau Reservation

The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in Wisconsin is taking a look at liquor license regulations and plans to beef up its law enforcement presence after a 37-year-old man was killed in a bar fight last week.

John Kintop died outside Club 47 in the town of Lac du Flambeau. Two men, Brian Cross, 26, and Clinton Graveen, 23, have been charged with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the January 22 incident. Cross and Graveen appear to be tribal members.

The joint liquor committee of the tribe and the town held a meeting last night to discuss the issue. Some blame the bar for serving the men who were involved in the fight. According to LDFNews.Com, an unofficial website for tribal issues, the bar re-opened just two nights after Kintop's death.

The town is located within reservation borders. About 60 percent of the population is Native.
