Bush administration press conference on Thursday

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne and other Bush administration officials will hold a press conference in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

Kempthorne will discuss progress on two of his Indian initiatives. He sought $15 million to improve Indian education and $16 million to combat methamphetamine in Indian Country.

Kempthorne also will announce online training course for federal employees. The course is designed to help agencies work better with tribes.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson, Small Business Administration Deputy Administrator Jovita Carranza, Assistant Secretary Carl Artman and other officials are scheduled to appear.

The press conference takes place at 10am in the Holeman Lounge of the National Press Club. That's before the State of Indian Nations address by National Congress of American Indians President Joe Garcia, who will attend the press conference as well.
