Colville Tribes name new executive director

The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington named John Gonzales, a former president of the National Congress of American Indians, as the executive director for the tribal council.

Gonzales is from San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico. He currently serves as executive director of the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council and has served as governor of his tribe.

"We are extremely pleased that John has accepted this very important position," Colville Chairman Mike Marchand said, The Grand Coulee Star reported. "He brings a wealth of experience and expertise, an understanding of the problems facing reservation communities, and the ability to help us solve those problems."

Gonzales will start his job next month.
