Lawsuits target Bureau of Indian Education

The
Bureau of Indian Education, a part of the
Bureau of Indian Affairs, is facing lawsuits from former employees.
In January, two former employees accused the Shiprock Education Line Office in New Mexico of racial and sexual harassment, creating hostile work environments, wrongful termination and misuse of funds.
Now, two more former Shiprock employees are filing similar complaints, and more could be on the way.
Michael Gaddy, who is representing the former employees, says he asked lawmakers and the FBI last fall to investigate the BIE. But he says nothing has happened since then.
The Bush administration created the BIA as part of a reorganization effort. Some tribes say they weren't properly consulted about the change.
