Saginaw Chippewa Tribe removes council member

David Sowmick, a council member for the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, was removed from office on Wednesday after failing two drug tests.

Sowmick, who was serving as sergeant-at-arms, admitted he tested positive for marijuana use. He is reportedly the first council member to fail the tests.

The tribe has required drug tests of political candidates since 1994. Sitting council members have to be tested twice a year.
