Creek Nation sees increase in rides on transit service

As gasoline prices rise, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma has seen an increase in ridership on its transit service.

Ben H. Chaney, the tribe's transportation manager, said about 3,000 people use the service. "We're at a point right now where you have to call and make reservations 24 hours in advance," Chaney told The Tulsa World. "It's getting real popular."

The tribe operates 15 small passenger buses, three vans, a four-wheel-drive sport utility vehicle and one 58-passenger coach bus. The service is funded by the Indian Reservation Road (IRR) program at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
