First Nations concerned about police shootings

The leader of the
Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says law enforcement officers in the province have adopted a "shoot and ask questions later" when it comes to Native people.
Chief Lawrence Joseph has asked the province to discuss the issue but he said he hasn't received a response. In the last seven years, officers have shot seven Native people. Six of the cases resulted in fatalities.
The most recent incident came last weekend, when
Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers shot and killed a 21-year-old man on the
White Bear First Nation . Since December, one Native man and two Native women have been shot by officers. Two of them died.
