A measure making its way through the
Navajo Nation
Council seeks to remove the
Navajo Nation's top lawyer.
Louis Denetsosie has served as attorney general since 2003. Council delegates have tried to remove him twice in the past.
The latest effort concerns Denetsosie's alleged support for a proposal by
Navajo President Joe Shirley
Jr. to reduce the number of council delegates from 88 to 24.
Delegates say Denetsosie can't be fair and impartial in interpreting tribal law.
“I think it’s retaliation for what he’s done working for us, working for the people,”
Shirley told the Associated Press.
