Police official under fire for spying on Mohawk man

The head of the
Ontario Provincial Police is facing calls to resign for spying on a Mohawk man who participated in a protest in June 2007.
OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino obtained wiretaps for Shawn Brant, his brother and two others. Fantino did not obtain court approval for the "emergency" surveillance.
Fantino even made a personal call to Brant and threatened to do "everything I can within your community and everywhere else to destroy your reputation" if the protest went through as planned.
Fantino told Brant that "your whole world’s going to come crashing down" if Brant didn't call if off.
Fantino defended his actions, saying the media and political critics have taken the situation out of context. Brant faces 12 years in prison for blocking a rail line in Ontario.
