Law enforcement on the
Blackfeet Nation of Montana called a ban on alcohol sales during the North American Indian Days was a success.
Police chief K. Webb Galbreath said there were no vehicle fatalities or domestic violence calls during the July 10-13 event. "It worked pretty well," he told The Great Falls Tribune.
Local merchants aren't so sure. They said people drove 30 to 40 miles off the reservation to buy alcohol, heightening the safety risk.
Galbreath said calls for public intoxication, reckless driving and disturbances increased a day after the event ended.
