BIA delays decision on Little Shell recognition
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has delayed a decision on the federal recognition petition of the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana.

The BIA issued a proposed finding in favor of the tribe in May 2000. But extensions of the comment period led to several delays.

The tribe requested some of the extensions but this time the BIA's Office of Federal Acknowledgement that says it won't make a decision until January 28, 2009, at the earliest. Chairman John Sinclair believes there is political pressure at play.
