About 85 members of the Havasupai Tribe of Arizona are returning to their homes after being evacuated from the Grand Canyon on Sunday.

No one was injured when a dam broke and flooded the village of Supai but damage is extensive. The tribe depends heavily on tourists.

"I'm afraid it looks pretty grave," Billy Jack of the tribe's tourism office told The Arizona Republic.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Indian Health Service and key tribal employees stayed behind during the evacuation. Some elders also stayed in the village. The tribe is looking for donations of bottled water, canned goods, personal hygiene items, diapers, baby formula and other items.

The evacuees were housed by the neighboring Hualapai Tribe.
