A political candidate in Quebec dropped out of the Liberal Party campaign after his comments about the 1990 Oka Crisis resurfaced.
As a host of a radio show, Simon Bédard called on Canadian soldiers to kill Mohawk warriors who were occupying an ancestral site in Quebec. "You go in there with the army, and you clean it all up. Fifty deaths, 100 deaths, 125 deaths, it's done. We can put that behind us and go on," he said, CBC News reported.
Bédard stood by the remarks when questioned about them earlier this week. But he apparently had a change in heart and scheduled a news conference to apologize.
The public apology never came because the party forced him to step down.
