St. Regis Mohawk Tribe seeks power system
The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York is seeking to develop its own power system.

The tribe currently buys power from National Grid. A deal is in the works to buy the company's poles, lines and equipment on the reservation for about $4.1 million.

A meeting has been scheduled to discuss the agreement, which tribal leaders say will generate jobs, help the tribe's telecommunications company and address a state taxation issue.
