Puyallup Tribe opposes elk hunting proposal
The Puyallup Tribe of Washington is objecting to the state's proposal to allow elk hunting in its treaty area.

The tribe normally hunts about seven elk a year. The state is proposing to allow non-Indians to take an undetermined number of animals.

"That's the dangerous part of it," Barbara Moeller, the tribe's wildlife biologist, told The Olympian.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife says the proposal came in response to complaints about elk in towns near Mount Rainier.
