The National Congress of American Indians named two youth ambassadors at its 65th annual convention in Phoenix, Arizona, on Wednesday.

J'Shon Lee, a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe, and Quintin Lopez, a member of the Tohono O'odham Nation, were selected among other youth competitors. They will receive a scholarship for $2,500 and will represent NCAI's ) Youth Ambassador Leadership Program.

. "Our youth will inherit the same issues we are dealing with today, and as tribal leaders we must provide them forums such as this to better understand how tribal governments function and their relationships with state and federal systems," said NCAI President Joe Garcia.

Lee is a 19-year-old business management and pre-law student at Arizona State University. "It's so exciting to have the opportunity to represent Indian Country's youth and learn about so many issues facing Native people," she said.

Lopez, 19, is a political science major at Pima Community College. "I want to encourage tribal leaders to bring their youth to NCAI meetings and educate them on the government processes within their own tribes and compare that to NCAI's constitution and by-laws," he said.
