Rep. Cole drops bid for GOP leadership post
After seeing his party lose more seats, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma), the only Native American in Congress, dropped his bid for re-election as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Cole was going to face Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) for the post. But he dropped out after it appeared he would have lost the race.

"I don’t think Tom would have gotten killed, but he would have been beaten," a Republican staffer told National Review Online.

Cole is a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma.
