BIA blamed for missing title document from 1929
Tribal and local officials in northern New Mexico are searching for a Bureau of Indian Affairs title document that hasn't been seen in 80 years.

In 1929, Nambe Pueblo transferred an approximately one-acre site to Silas McCormick, whose family recently sold it to the Santa Fe County school system. But since no one can find the original document, work can't more forward on a community park.

"It's missing," school superintendent Art Blea told The Santa Fe New Mexican.

The tribe might be asked to transfer the land again. But Blea said council members want to see more documentation, which may not exist.

The McCormick family sold the land to the school system last year for $285,000.
