The Emmonak Tribe of Alaska will receive $20,000 in emergency funds from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The village gained international attention when a resident sought help to combat high fuel and high food costs. Cash, food and other donations have been pouring in from the state and across the globe.
The BIA stepped in after Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), the top Republican on the Senate Energy Committee and a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, asked the agency to look into the issue. The BIA waived income requirements so that more village residents can qualify for funds.
