Biden announces $3M tribal senior nutrition funds
The Department of Health and Human Services will provide $3 million to fund senior nutrition programs for tribes, Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday.

The money comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funds will help tribes provide meals and other services to their elders.

"Across the country, older Americans depend on senior centers and home delivery programs for regular, healthy meals. Today, more senior citizens are in need, but the programs they depend on are on the brink of reducing their services or closing down,” said Biden. “The Recovery Act will help ensure older Americans are not forced to choose between paying bills and buying food."

HHS will release the money to 246 tribes and Native Hawaiian organizations in April, Biden said. State governments will receive $97 million.
