Blackfeet Nation water compact near final vote
The Blackfeet Nation water compact is near final approval in the Montana Legislature.

The deal requires one more vote in the state Senate before heading to Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) for his signature. Approval by Congress is also required.

The compact quantifies the tribe's water rights and authorizes a water project. "This compact is probably one of the most significant issues that will come before the Blackfeet Tribe," said council member Roger Running Crane Running Crane, The Great Falls Tribune reported.
