An increase in tobacco taxes in Washington has some consumers headed to the Yakama Nation for their cigarettes, KAPP-TV reports.
A pack of cigarettes costs about half as much on the reservation. Non-tribal members aren't supposed to get a tax break but they don't seem too worried about it.
"I'll find transportation some how, some way to get all the way out here," one smoker said. " And I'll buy at least three to four cartons."
The state canceled its tobacco compact with the tribe last year, citing sales of cigarettes without proper tax stamps. The dispute is being litigated.
