Cherokees of Alabama seek federal recognition
A group called the Cherokees of Alabama is seeking federal recognition.

The group filed "hundreds and hundreds of pages" with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, a developer said. The BIA confirmed that it received the materials.

The group recently purchased the River Trace Golf Course and plans to develop it into a major tourist attraction, with an Indian village and some residential and commercial development.
