Native American Church conference in Arizona
The 60th annual conference of the Native American Church of North America is being held this weekend in Arizona.

The conference takes place at the Navajo Tribal Fairgrounds in Window Rock, the capitol of the Navajo Nation. As many as 250 medicine men from North and South America are expected for the event, which runs Thursday through Sunday.

Speakers include representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Organizers will learn more about eagle feathers, sacred plants and border-crossing rules.

"People are beginning to travel to other countries to practice medicine," Emerson Jackson, president of the Arizona chapter of the Native American Church, told The Farmington Daily Times. "They need to know what they can bring in, what they can't."
