BIA faces deadline on Little Shell Chippewa Tribe
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is supposed to make a decision on the federal recognition petition of the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana.

The AP said the BIA's self-imposed deadline is today. A top official recently told Congress that a decision was near.

The tribe received a favorable proposed finding during the Clinton administration. The BIA says it has delayed making a final determination at the request of the tribe.

But the tribe says it has grown tired of waiting and has asked Congress for recognition.
