Close vote upheld for Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
The election commission for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe upheld the results of a recent primary in which one vote separated two of the candidates for chairman.

Incumbent chairman Ron His Horse Is Thunder only had one more vote than vice chairwoman Avis Little Eagle. "This is final as far as we're concerned," election office manager Dellis Agard told The Bismarck Tribune.

Little Eagle could still mount a challenge in tribal court. The paper wasn't able to reach her for comment.

Former chairman Charles Murphy won the most votes in the primary. The general election takes place in September.

The tribe's reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
