A new ferry in Washington will be named for Chetzemoka, a chief of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe
who lived in the 1800s.
The Washington State Transportation
Commission approved the naming of the ferry for the chief.
“It’s always good to have your family recognized that way," Les Prince, Chetzemoka’s great-great grandson, told The Kitsap Sun.
Chetzemoka, who lived from 1808 to 1888, sought peace with non-Indian settlers. He signed the 1855 Point No Point Treaty.
