A federal judge refused to halt an Internal Revenue Service auction of 7,100 acres owned by the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.
The auction is set to take place today at 10am. The IRS claims the tribe owes about $3.1 million in employment taxes, penalties and interest.
The land is part of the original reservation that was established by the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie. The tribe repurchased the property in 1998.
The land is owned by a tribal corporation that recently declared bankruptcy, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported.
