The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana is using the popular Rosetta Stone software to preserve its language.
The tribe was accepted into the company's Endangered Language Program in 2007. It took three years to input thousands of Chitimacha words, create audio samples and prepare images that will help tribal members master the language.
The company gave 1,000 copies of the course to the tribe and created a website for tribal members to use.
